I didn't want to get on this plane, I didn't want to spend days telling yet another story of a black man gunned down. Each story had drained me emotionally, and I wasn't sure how much I had left. 'You'll go,' my friend told me after listening intently. 'Because you have to.'

Introduction
In the riotous days following the police killing of Mike Brown, Washington Post journalist Wesley Lowery was arrested while working on his report in a Ferguson McDonalds.
When a video of the journalist's arrest went viral, to many it appeared police were suppressing coverage of their militarized response to the protests.
Lowery was released from custody as an early star of the Movement for Black Lives, and the Post's go-to reporter to cover it.
Over the next two years, Lowery traveled the country investigating police killings and interviewing protesters, police, and victims' families.
In this 2016 book, Lowery details what he saw while analyzing the Movement's historical context, its achievements, and the intersecting challenges of being a Black journalist in America.
