Our new understanding of how the brain works presents a great opportunity for optimizing how we teach and learn.

Paul Howard-Jones

Introduction

Scientists have called the human brain the most complex object in the known universe.

Neuroscience is gradually revealing more about how our brains acquire, store, and retrieve knowledge — and these insights can help us learn more efficiently.

Paul Howard-Jones is a neuroscience and education professor at the University of Bristol; Tim Jay is a psychology of education professor at Loughborough University.

In this National STEM Learning Centre course offered via FutureLearn, Howard-Jones and Jay show teachers and learners how to harness neuroscience insights for education.

The Science of Learning introduces the Engage, Build, Consolidate – or EBC – model for learning. It also addresses common learning myths and encourages engagement with neuroscientific research.
