Introduction
Although my role doesn't include writing verse and creating metaphors, writing poetry has given me the instinct for the deep-level thinking and linguistic precision that UX writing requires.
The two disciplines aren't that different. Both poetry and UX writing convey a lot of information in a constrained space, deeply consider the human experience, and use language to help users or readers navigate a landscape.
There are UX writing boot camps, but boot camps can be expensive, and although it's harder, it's still possible to pivot into UX writing without this type of training. Here are some tips to get started.
