Craig Leeson is an award-winning journalist, filmmaker and founder of the nonprofit Plastic Oceans International.
In 2011 Leeson set out to make a documentary about blue whales in the Indian Ocean, but upon plunging beneath the waterline, found a toxic mix of plastic, oil and waste floating on the surface.
