Overview

In 2020, a Coronavirus pandemic devastated the world. While social distancing and business closures could slow its spread, there was only one way to stop it – developing a vaccine.

Explained is a Netflix series produced by Vox Media that examines and unpacks the complexities of the modern world. After previous episodes dealing with pandemics, Vox released a special three-part mini-series to help understand the COVID-19 outbreak. This second episode titled Coronavirus, Explained: The Race for a Vaccine provides a global overview of the work being done to develop a vaccine as of mid-2020.

Narrated by multi-award winning actor Laura Linney, the episode interviews some of the leading minds in vaccine research and looks at historical examples to explore how soon we can have enough vaccines for everyone.
