Overview

Many of us are familiar with the term 'conscious uncoupling' thanks to actress Gwyneth Paltrow. Paltrow used it to describe her separation from long-time musician husband Chris Martin, but she didn't coin the term.

Conscious uncoupling is an idea that came from marriage and family therapist Katherine Woodward Thomas, which she's used to help countless couples come to terms with their break-ups and find closure. Katherine believes that we focus too much on the 'happily ever after', when we really need to teach people to live 'happily even after'.

In her book, Conscious Uncoupling: 5 Steps to Living Happily Ever After, Thomas teaches us how to move gracefully away from a dysfunctional relationship and transition into the next phase of life. Using her accredited five-step therapeutic method, you and your ex can forge the way to a healthy, even rewarding separation.

"In a nutshell, a breakup is nothing short of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a complete spiritual awakening. One that catapults you in a whole new level of authenticity, compassion, wisdom, depth, and - dare I say it? - even joy."
