Up HackYoga: Embody Stability, Reclaim Your JoyBy Avery Kalapa
In a Nutshell
The most common obstacles that subvert success in yoga can be overcome through a simple framework. It works best with a large dose of self-compassion, the right support, and the understanding that working through the obstacles IS the practice — not a sign of failure.

If you knew how profoundly functional yoga would change your life, you'd drink that nectar every day. Too many changemakers want to break the burnout cycle but don't realize how within reach it is to find relief, if they had the right support ... you weren't meant to do it alone.

Introduction
Many people who want to love yoga get derailed by perfectionism, isolation, and inner resistance rooted in fear.
Modern yoga is often divorced from its powerful philosophical frameworks and replicates harmful norms of systemic oppression, excluding folks who hold intersecting identities.
But yoga is a powerful tool for reclaiming our peace and agency by disrupting our internalization of cultural conditioning.
Many yoga approaches are geared towards 'fitness' rather than functional anatomy, accessibility, and health, causing frustrating injuries and denying participants the practice's benefits.
I'm Avery Kalapa (they/them). I'm a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher, community weaver, and queer and trans wellness organizer with over 25 years of yoga experience.
I teach yoga in the rigorous, adaptive, somatically precise method of the Iyengar lineage through an anti-oppression framework that uplifts inner healing towards collective liberation.
Everyone should have access to the revitalizing nourishment of deeply informed yoga without having to code-switch or assimilate.
My experience as a queer, trans, non-binary yoga professional allows me to provide affirming, accessible, healing spaces for my community.
