I knew early on that finding truth is not the same as finding happiness. You aspire to see the truth, but once you have seen it, you cannot avoid suffering. Otherwise, you have seen nothing at all.

Introduction

What is it like to live in a Buddhist monastery?

Narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch, filmmakers Marc J. Francis and Max Pugh's documentary Walk with Me showcases the daily rhythms and practices of the Plum Village monastery.

Due to his anti-war political activism, Zen Buddhist master Thích Nhất Hạnh was exiled from Vietnam in 1966 and fled to France, where he founded the Plum Village community.

Nhất Hạnh, who died in 2022, is known worldwide for bringing Buddhist teachings like mindfulness to Western audiences through his books.

The documentary features extended scenes of nuns and monks engaging in stillness, silence, and meditation, interwoven with teachings from Nhất Hạnh and excerpts from his journal read by Cumberbatch.
