Introduction

After rocketing through the atmosphere, astronauts dock and settle into the International Space Station – a miraculous collaboration of 15 countries, many of whom are politically at odds.

Earth looks quite fragile and small when seen from the ISS – because in reality, it is.

Astronaut and former Air Force pilot Ron Garan spent his free time during six months of space travel staring through the window, reimagining solutions to the problems humanity faces today.

Now, Garan focuses on non-profit work, trying to get NGOs and other organizations to take up the Orbital Perspective of Earth as a single interconnected organism to develop long term solutions to planetary issues.

In this book, Garan recounts his trips to space, his non-profit work, and the wisdom he gained in his six months off-world.

The Orbital Perspective urges us to collaborate across cultures and trust in others, showing how cooperation can help humanity tackle the daunting challenges we face.
