It’s hard to imagine life without emotions. We live for them, structuring circumstances to give us moments of pleasure and joy, and avoiding situations that will lead to disappointment, sadness, or pain.

Introduction
Why do we feel emotions? Where do they come from?
For millennia, there have been various hypotheses: they originated from different parts of the body or even fluids running through it.
In the 20th century, neuroscience proved that emotions originate in the brain, but no one could pinpoint their exact location.
In The Emotional Brain: The Mysterious Underpinnings of Emotional Life, neuroscientist Joseph LeDoux suggests that our emotions occupy various parts of our brain.
Published in 1996, The Emotional Brain paved the way for neuroscience to apprehend emotions as products of complex multi-systems rather than simple chemical reactions.
Through his work, LeDoux showed that we don’t have to be overwhelmed by our emotional states.
