Overview

The Disordered Cosmos is not your ordinary popular science book. Aside from unraveling the laws of physics that govern our universe, the book also delves into the social, systemic laws within our society and their repercussions on women and minorities.

The latest work of Chanda Prescod-Weinstein tells us a story about the development of our current knowledge of the universe and understanding of physics, and the hardships people of color, especially Black and Latino women, face in this white male-dominated field. Prescod-Weinstein is a theoretical physicist, Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy, and a Core Faculty Member in Women's and Gender Studies at the University of New Hampshire.

She is also known for her vocal activism on women's and Black rights.

"There's the universe and then there's the process of developing a mathematical understanding of it. This is physics, and physics is a human process. Physics is not the universe. Rather, it is one very human attempt to get at its innards."
