What happened can never be forgotten and can never be changed. But over time I learned that I can choose how to respond to the past. I can be miserable, or I can be hopeful.

Introduction
At 16, Edith Eger was sent to Auschwitz, where she was separated from her parents and forced to dance for Nazi physicist Josef Mengele, known as the Angel of Death.
Eger barely survived the Holocaust, but after she was freed, she managed to live a long life and find happiness, despite the horrors she had experienced.
Today, Eger is a psychologist and a specialist in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder who now lives in America.
In her memoir, The Choice, Eger recounts her resilience and sheds light on how we can all learn to overcome our circumstances and live a fuller, happier life.
