Introduction

On November 1st, 2008, a user called Satoshi Nakamoto posted on an obscure mailing list announcing the design of an electronic cash system called Bitcoin.

Bitcoin would allow users to pay each other without needing banks or financial institutions. Over the next two years, Nakamoto held in-depth discussions with forum users curious about the new system.

In 2010, as Bitcoin gained popularity, Nakamoto ceased all public activity. Their real identity remains unknown.

Phil Champagne is managing director of the real-estate investment firm Wren Investment Group. In The Book Of Satoshi, Champagne collates Nakamoto's forum correspondence and their email exchanges with early Bitcoin adopters.

The compilation includes discussions of Bitcoin's design fundamentals, Nakamoto's responses to suggestions and criticisms, and their speculation as to the system's uses.

The book sheds light on Bitcoin before fame, although following some of its content requires a background in computer programming.
