Men, women and transgender people in straight, gay or lesbian relationships can all perpetrate and experience DVA. However, it is important to recognise that DVA is experienced disproportionately by women and perpetrated predominantly by men.

Introduction

Between 2016-17, the UK economy is estimated to have spent approximately £66 billion on services and support in Domestic Violence and Abuse issues.

Domestic violence is a global epidemic, and while people of all genders are susceptible to it, women are disproportionately affected and more likely to experience it on a regular basis.

The University of Sheffield has put together this course to help people who are likely to find themselves in contact with domestic violence victims through their work, community, and everyday life.

Led by Senior Lecturer Parveen Ali and Learning Technologist Jesrine Clarke-Darrington, the course brings in experts from charities, law enforcement, and the National Health Service to examine the causes and impact of domestic violence.
