Introduction

When was the last time you felt panicked? Perhaps it was during an exam, before a date, or in a traffic jam that was making you late.

Everyone has experienced feelings of panic at some point, but for some, panic gets out of control and develops into panic attacks or a panic disorder.

While panic attacks aren't uncommon, not everyone knows the symptoms, and many don't understand panic disorders.

This course is developed by Bournemouth University colleagues Roger Baker, professor of clinical psychology, and Anna Stuflesser, alongside Naomi Moller, Head of Discipline in the School of Psychology and Counselling at The Open University.

The course explores what panic attacks and panic disorders are, presents key understandings of why they happen, and outlines how to find help.
