Introduction

Messages around food and wellbeing are often complex and conflicting.

Everyone’s version of a healthy diet is different, so it is essential to have a good grasp of the science behind nutrition to make informed decisions.

For this FutureLearn course, senior research fellow Dr. Alex Johnstone and honorary lecturer Dr. Alex Mavroeidi from the University of Aberdeen have teamed up with nutrition experts across the field.

From archeologists revealing the diets of our Paleolithic ancestors to specialists in micronutrition and gut health, Johnstone and Mavroeidi are supported by an array of guest speakers.

The team guides us from the beginnings of modern nutrition to the contemporary problems we are facing on individual, societal, and global levels.

By providing us with a grounding in nutritional science, Johnstone and Mavroeidi enable us to apply this knowledge to our lifestyles, so we can make better dietary choices for ourselves and the planet.
