Nietzsche: A Very Short Introduction

Michael Tanner

Overview

Quoted frequently by people from all areas of the political spectrum, the inimitable Friedrich Neitzsche has experienced an incredible posthumous resurgence. The 19th-century German philosopher chose suffering over mindless comfort and solitude over society among the herd. Nietzsche's views on life, suffering, and greatness in a pleasure-seeking world feel just as poignant today as when he wrote them more than a hundred years ago.

Dr. Michael Tanner is a senior fellow at the Cato Institute and was a philosophy lecturer at The University of Cambridge for 36 years. He has written a multitude of books across various subjects from economics to music.

Tanner's book on Nietzsche is part of the Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press. This book explores his life, times, and philosophy, showing us why he remains relevant and controversial to this day.
