Introduction
In many of America's biggest cities, the streets are lined with homeless encampments where people live in makeshift shelters.
Some become homeless because they can't afford to pay rent; some lose their jobs, have disabilities, have no family support, or need treatment for substance abuse or mental illness.
The total U.S. homeless population is estimated to be over 550,000 as of 2021.
Over three years, co-directors Pedro Kos and Jon Shenk followed a dozen people facing homelessness in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle.
In Lead Me Home, Kos and Shenk aim to humanize those facing homelessness and shed light on their day-to-day lives.
