In 2024, the world witnessed an unprecedented case of abuse: Dominique Pelicot and 50 other men were tried in Avignon, France, for the decade-long chemical submission (drugging someone without their knowledge) and aggravated rape of his wife, Gisèle Pelicot.

Gisèle, who has become a feminist icon, waived her right to anonymity during the trial in order for 'shame to change sides.'

What happened to Gisèle has deeply traumatized not only her but her entire family: in their 50-year-long marriage, she and Dominique had three children and many grandchildren.
