Overview

For a grey object with the consistency of tofu, made up of 80% water and weighing about three pounds, the complexity of the human brain is astounding. Our brain constantly perceives every aspect of the world around us, telling us precisely how we ought to react to it and allowing us to make split-second decisions, as well as creating long-term emotions, memories, and ideas.

Human: The World Within explores the ways in which different people live their lives around the world and the complex biological processes support them. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Stephen David, known for historical documentaries like Sons of Liberty and The Men Who Built America, this docuseries takes us inside the fascinating world of our own bodies.

In this episode, we take a look at the most important and complex of all our bodily systems – the nervous system. Through interviews and real-life examples, we will see how the brain and the nervous system that stretches throughout our bodies converts data into action – all to keep us alive and healthy.

"The human body is full of systems. Some protect us, others nourish us or keep us moving. But there's one system that controls all the others. And it might be the one that truly makes you you – the nervous system."
