Introduction

Anxiety and depression are two of the most common mental health disorders.

Both issues can be triggered by various factors, including genetics and traumatic life events in childhood or later life, like losing a job, unemployment, divorce, poverty, and discrimination.

A 2016 study revealed that around 85% of patients diagnosed with depression also present with symptoms of anxiety.

Payam Rezaie, PhD, is a neuroscientist and a contributor to The Open University since 2003, as well as a leading researcher in the neurobiology of autism.

This course, offered by The Open University, takes a look at the connections between anxiety and depression and how the conditions can coincide with other mood disorders.
