Overview

You can gain a lot from having a strong sense of empathy. When you do, you work better with people and understand their perspectives. This makes it relatively easy to work with you and have you on the team. Beyond talent and merit, what often speeds up people's careers is for others, especially their seniors, to want them on their team. This mostly results from the fact that people have noticed your ability to work effectively in a team. When you're empathetic, you can understand different viewpoints and also foster a strong team that delivers results.

By understanding people's perspectives, you can foster social relationships more effectively. A deft understanding and empathy practice will help you gain self-awareness, regulation, and confidence. With an impressive level of confidence, you are qualified to be on teams and connect with people in ways they find relatable. This makes you an asset. Interestingly, a large percentage of CEOs and employees have said there is a need for them to get better at the practice of empathy.

Carolyn Goerner has been teaching empathy and emotional intelligence for over 30 years. She has worked with college students and business executives to help them form better and long-lasting relationships with people by fostering a deft understanding of empathy. These years of experience have strengthened her expertise and led her to develop some of the best strategies for understanding and practicing empathy.

"I believe empathy is the most important part of the emotional intelligence model. It's the linchpin, the place where you go from introspection, thinking only about yourself, to truly considering the thoughts and viewpoints of other people."
