Overview

Brittney Cooper knows what it means to rage against the machine. In Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower, Cooper shows how the silent rage of Black women holds the key to understanding America's flawed democracy.

As well as being an author, Cooper is Associate Professor of Women's and Gender Studies and Africana Studies at Rutgers University, and founder of the decorated feminist blog, Crunk Collective.

Cooper argues that society's weaknesses are most visible in the lives of the oppressed. In this book, Cooper shows how oppression both causes and conceals Black women's rage, why social rage and emotion are managed unevenly, and how the rage of Black women might propel the U.S. towards a more perfect union.

"Black women's rage is a kind of power that America would do well to heed if it wants to finally live up to its stated democratic aims."
