Overview

Today much of our climate news seems like a prophecy of doom, showing the extent of our failure to stop carbon emissions. With leading scientists predicting catastrophe, it's no wonder that many of us have chosen to ignore climate change despite understanding how dire the situation is. Drawdown, however, is not a book of climate change problems, but solutions. Compiled and edited by author, environmental activist, and policy consultant Paul Hawken, this book offers a comprehensive list of actions that must be taken to reverse global heating in the next 30 years, each ranked by its total greenhouse gas reductions.

The solutions presented here were researched and articulated by an international team of researchers and professionals in 2017, reviewed by experts, and validated by a 120-member advisory board. Although each requires its own approach, these solutions must be implemented holistically to stand a chance of restoring our planetary equilibrium.

"We think that our climate future is harsh because news and reports have focused on what will happen if we do not act. Drawdown shows us what we can do."
