Introduction
Transracial adoption refers to the adoption of a child by parents of a different race or ethnicity. This form of adoption can present unique challenges as the adoptee tries to navigate their own racial identity while examining the world around them.
The transracial adoptee may also have to reconcile differences in their racial identity and the races of their adopted family or the community in which they live. The adopted person may also try to grasp for a connection to their native culture while facing judgment and discrimination.
