Overview

From participating in rap battles in the poorest neighborhoods of Brooklyn to performing in front of hectic concert halls all over the world, The Notorious B.I.G. lived a short, supernova life. Biggie - real name Christopher Wallace - was trying to provide for his family while pursuing his passion for rhymes and a good beat.

Trusted and encouraged by star-rapper and producer Diddy - real name Sean Combs - Biggie reached global notoriety in 1994 when his album Ready to Die became an instant hip hop classic. Biggie's life was not without struggle. His hard-hitting, often grim lyrics touched the hearts of many and his rhymes would revolutionize the world of rap forever.

Biggie's life and death are a testimony of his will to celebrate existence and to create art, even in an unwelcoming, at times violent, world. Tragically, Biggie was fatally shot one night in California when just 24 years old, leaving a whole generation grieving an idol who'd offered them hope, truth, and purpose. While the murder is still unsolved, this documentary sidesteps this mystery to celebrate the lasting impact of The Notorious B.I.G. Decades after an unidentified individual pulled the trigger that took away his life - and his voice - Biggie's musical impact still echoes throughout the hip hop genre.
