Our inner critic often gets the reputation of being evil or harmful. While it can definitely be responsible for much suffering, when we take a deeper look, we see that our inner critic is simply trying to protect us.

Introduction
The inner critic is the part of us that is designed to keep us safe. It stays vigilant about what could go wrong or be dangerous to our survival, but sometimes it really overdoes it!
The inner critic is the internal voice that can be very negative, critical, and pessimistic, always looking to the worst-case scenarios. We often have a very unconscious relationship with this part of ourselves, taking our self-talk as a 'fact' rather than 'just a thought.'
When we bring awareness to this part of our inner life, we can begin to shift our relationship with it.
