Since 2014, Edible Bristol has been growing food all across the city of Bristol, but more than just food for humans. Growing food for nature and building habitats to support nature are just as important in the city.

Introduction
Often, I wander around cities and towns and despair at the dreadful planting schemes I see. We are in a time of emergency, and the way we treat our soils and care for our environment is what will guarantee our future as a species.
Recently, I wandered past a brand new planting scheme in a new Bristol development where box has been used to create hedging, with no thought of the box caterpillar which has decimated it in the last few weeks. This lack of forethought is sad.
Many people are working on doing things better, on creating planting schemes that will mitigate flooding, support cooler spaces, and create spaces for the pollinators and wildlife that we need to draw back to our towns and cities.
