Introduction
Adoptions don't usually have a fairytale storyline with a happy ending, and some adoptions have chapters of rejection in them. The truth is, adoptions do not always work out, and sometimes adoption reunions fail as well.
Occasionally, adoptive parents – especially those who have not dealt with their own personal issues, such as infertility and loss – can have a hard time bonding with an adopted child.
Periodically, adopted people rebel against their adoption because they are dismayed by their de-identification and disconnection from their family of origin, have a longing to reconnect with their birth family, or they clash with their adoptive family.
Adoption reunion rejection describes situations where an adopted person is ultimately not accepted into their adoptive family after a reunion attempt.
Here are a few things I have learned about a few different types of rejection in adoption after speaking with adoptees on the Who Am I Really? podcast.
