Introduction

Not all adventures have to be rapid and dangerous. Some, like the traversing of the Appalachian Trail, must be experienced slowly.

The Appalachian Trail, commonly known as the AT, is a hiking path that stretches approximately 3,540 km from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine.

In A Walk in the Woods, which is just one of the 23 books he's written in the past 40 years, prolific author Bill Bryson details his attempt at completing as much of the AT as possible.

With his friend Stephen Katz along for the journey, Bryson shares his personal insights of the trail alongside a myriad of facts and figures about the extraordinary American wilderness.
