Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine shocked the world. In a matter of days, many Ukrainian cities had been cut off from the outside world, surrounded by Russia, and were forced to endure months of tense and deadly sieges.

One of the longest sieges was of the city of Mariupol, and only one team of journalists was still trapped inside.
