Introducing Dark Mode: Uptime’s Newest Feature
You asked - we delivered. Dark Mode, our No.1 most requested user feature, is now live and available to use on iOS and Android
Exciting news: the Uptime app has gone to the dark side.
Here at Uptime HQ, we feel it’s important that we build an app that's the most useful it can be for you, to help you feel more empowered to learn. We built Dark Mode with users in mind: it was an important step for us not just because it was our most requested feature, but because of all the benefits that it provides to users.
Dark Mode settings have been repeatedly proven to reduce eye strain and consume less of your phone battery, creating a user-friendly experience that reduces your exposure to bright screen lighting, particularly if you like to use the app at night.
“Bringing dark mode to Uptime was not just a matter of adapting the basic user interface to black and grey colors,” comments Humberto Mogetti, Lead Product Designer at Uptime. “The team was able to keep our brand colours, and also change our content consumption."
One important objective? Building a Dark Mode that still felt true to the user experience we’d previously built. “Our goal was also to create a tailored experience that encompasses our brand; it was important for us to keep our brand integrity, as many Dark Modes in other apps all looked the same,” adds Chris Davis, Senior Product Designer.
For example, we built Dark Mode with dark shades of blue, rather than blacks and greys. (Importantly, we also found ways to still include a few guest appearances from our signature Dragonfruit pink.)
Our Dark Mode feature includes:
- Not just a new ‘Dark Mode’ user interface, but a new ‘Dark Mode’ story experience
- Carefully tested designs and curated colors
- Tailor-made, newly-built custom themes and backgrounds
- A sophisticated, accessible new option for consuming 5-Minute Knowledge Hacks
To try it out for yourself, you can simply open up the app, then go to ‘Account’ -> ‘Appearance’ -> ‘Dark Mode’, and switch it to ‘on’.
This feature is the result of an incredibly thorough, tremendous job from our dedicated team of hardworking in-house creatives. User feedback from our community is very important to us, so if you’re liking what you’re seeing, let us know by tagging us on Instagram at @uptime.app
Uptime was created by founders Jamie True, Jack Bekhor, and Patrick Walker in 2019, because they wanted to create a platform that allowed anyone to learn, anytime, anywhere. To find out more about our story, click here.
